“You should start a blog!”
Sound familiar? Here’s where my mind went every time “Sure, i’ll start a blog! I’m pretty cool. People want to see the cool things I’m doing. I know things! Yeah, I can do this! Wait, would anyone actually care about what I have to say? I don’t look like those instafamous bloggers. I can’t afford to travel the world and take pics. Ok. I can’t blog. But maybe I can? I guess I could try. At least my mom will read it.” So, I did. Actually I started a few times which I’ll tell you about later, but I’ve finally found one that I think will stick and I am so so passionate about. So if you’re reading this and have had that exact same conversation with yourself, go for it! I’m totally learning with ya here. If you’re still hesitant, listen up. I’m going to give you and honest recap of my first few months of blogging and I’ll keep checking in. There are thousands of articles out there telling you it is easy and you can do it. I’m here to give you a real time, honest description of trying blogging.
Trying Blogging – Take 3 – Find your Passion!
To be honest, I’ve tried this before. It didn’t work. I tried a personal blog telling friends and family about my life. Nah – I’m not that interesting. I tried a fashion blog with a friend. SO fun to work with someone and shoot with some company but rarely can I pull off the cool leaning on this brick wall photo in an outfit that I’m actually planning to return tomorrow after I take these photos. So I’ve landed here on Yeah, she tried that. I knew I wanted to blog and wanted to be able to share fun and at least somewhat interesting photos and content but I always struggled with exactly what. I was talking to my boyfriend one day about my obsession with learning new things and ended up saying “yeah, I tried that” multiple times in just our short conversation.
It clicked right then that I LOVE to try things. If I do, other people probably do too! They would probably like to see and hear about what they should try next! That was it. I cannot tell you how fast I jumped online to buy the domain name (after a couple hours of debating how to spell yeah, of course). I found something I’m already doing on the daily and that others could benefit from. The days of sitting in front of my computer brainstorming names was over and I knew that this excitement over the name and the endless possibilities meant this one is going to work. If you want to do this, find something you LOVE. Zone in on that passion no matter how narrow or broad the topic is and take it from there!
So How’s It Going?
Writing – Easy.
Getting enough photos for my posts – pretty easy when my boyfriend wants to help.
Finding the time to write and shoot and plan – tough.
Getting people to read what I’m writing – seemingly impossible.
I told you I was going to be honest here, so don’t let me discourage you! I’m not letting any of this discourage me. The actually going to places and trying new things and writing about them is pretty easy when I have time. But I’ll be honest. I’m so jealous of full time bloggers. Oh how I would love to be able to go to a restaurant and take photos at a time other that peak business on Saturday afternoon. I keep reminding myself that if I keep working my ass off and continue to fight the crowds for those pictures, I could be full time someday.
Also, how the heck do I get people to read this thing that I am slaving over? There are thousands of articles and classes out there on this topic and, at this point, I feel like I’ve read and invested in a good majority of those. But the people aren’t flocking to me quite yet. It is not overnight, people. I know I need to be patient and keep working to share my posts, and myself on insta, facebook groups and everywhere else I can so that is the plan! It is all a work in progress.
So right now it isn’t glamorous but…. If I can get people to my site, I can start working with sponsors and other bloggers and create even stronger content! Maybe people will start to share my posts. Maybe I’ll even convince a few people to try things they never thought they would have before. That is the ultimate goal and goals are good! They keep me going so that is what I’m shooting for. I want to be full time someday. That may not even be in sight but it is possible! Until then, I will keep writing as I lay in bed and on my lunch breaks. I’ll bring a photo to capture every little thing I try, even if it means asking my friends to take my photo constantly or making them move so I can get a shot of the location. I will keep trucking.
Blog with me! Please!
So this was the first few months. I’ll be back soon with an update that I think we are all hoping is a tad more optimistic. Until then, find that passion and follow it. Blog with me! Let’s try this together. I am always trying to expand my tribe and I’d love to hear how this goes for you! Any advice? Any hesitations? Did I scare any thoughts of starting a blog away? (I hope not!!) Let me know!
