How am I supposed to workout at home? I don’t have any of the fancy machines. Surprise! You don’t need them. With a few essentials at home, you can in the same quality work you would at the gym on pricey, muscle specific equipment. You can build out a mini home gym with just a few things – all of which can be easily stowed away!
Fun fact: I’ve never been a member at a traditional gym.
So what do you need?
2 sets of dumbbells
The first set should be comfortably light. That means somewhere in the 5-12lb range. For me, these are 10s. This set will be use for those toning moves or high rep ranges
The second should be heavy! Not too uncomfortably heavy, but enough to make you push yourself. These should be in the 15-25 lb range. Sound crazy? It’s not. If you ever need to drop down in weight, you can switch the exercise to use a single dumbbell. If you need the weight, you’ll have it!
Resistance Bands
These are a pretty cheap and space friendly part of a home gym set-up. There are a couple kinds but I’d recommend the smaller ones first. If you are ready to build up your gym, move on to the second set I linked below
This set is perfect for adding a bit of resistance to lower body exercise or adding some interest with upper body exercises!
This set is a bit different. The bands are longer and can be used for full body movements of looped around household things to use much like a cable machine! I travel with these for resistance workouts on the move.
THAT’S IT!
You can of course step it up and continue to add to your home gym but these are the only essentials!
