I was doing so well on my eating habits, counting macros, avoiding office treats and all of that. And then CG games prelims were over and it all went to hell. Enter cheeseburgers at the beach, donuts galore, pasta, and some of the best cheesecake in the world from our local coffee shop. So I decided it is time to snap back to it and was looking for a way to kick start that! I’ve always wanted to do a juice cleanse and this seemed like the perfect reason to try one! We decided to do the Clean Juice 1 Day Cleanse.
So Why do a Juice Cleanse?
Juice cleanses serve as a detox while still pumping your body full of nutrients. As Clean Juice says, we flood our bodies with the nutrients found in organic fruits and veggies to get all of the toxins out of there. We fill our bodies with processed foods full of chemicals and who knows what daily. Those are those toxins they’re talking about. The purpose of the juice cleanse is to wash all of that away. Sure, a 1 day cleanse may not be the answer to kickstarting a new nutrition regimen but it’s a way to signal both yourself and your body that change is about to happen!
The Clean Juice 1 Day Cleanse
With the benefits in mind and a serious need for detox, we put our order in for a 1 day juice cleanse at Clean Juice. It would be 6 juices throughout the day and would be ready to pick up the next day. I headed to clean juice and picked up our juices the day before our cleanse and got the walk through. Drink a juice every 2-3 hours in the labeled order. That was pretty much it. Flash forward to the next morning, we grabbed our little six packs to head out to work. We cracked our first juice and took a sip together. Time to cleanse!
Juice by Juice
I couldn’t think of a better way to describe how it went other than just laying it all out. With each juice Kyle and I wrote down what we thought of the juice and how we were feeling – Here it goes!
Sweet Green (#1):
Kyle
Taste: It’s better than I expected
Thoughts: I miss breakfast
Sara
Taste: First sip was good, second not so much, third – oof.
Thoughts: Do I really have to drive straight past starbucks AND the bagel place?
Orange (#2):
Kyle
Taste: This is way better than the last one
Thoughts: We can do this
Sara
Taste: I like this one better!!
Thoughts: Please tell me this will fill me up. The stomach is growling is getting embarrassing in meetings…
Green (#3):
Kyle
Taste: I don’t think I can get through this one.
Thoughts: I really don’t think I can get through this one.
Sara
Taste: I’m just going to chug this and NEVER drink it again
Thoughts: UGH.
Yellow (#4):
Kyle
Taste: This thing has a kick!
Thoughts: Thank god this is better than that last one.
Sara
Taste: Delish. Tastes like my favorite ginger juice!
Thoughts: But this is not going to fill me up.
That was the last one before we both headed home from work. When dinner time rolled around, we were not happy. When we would normally be energized, heading to workout, or getting stuff done, we were on the couch with some serious frowns on our faces. It was time to dive into juice #5 and Kyle thought it would be funny to set up our dinner….
At this point… NOT FUNNY DUDE.
We sat at the table and started to drink what felt like the billionth beverage I’d had that day.
Red (#5).
Kyle
Taste: I don’t think I like this one
Thoughts: We made it most of the way, we can probably eat now, right?
Sara
Taste: It tastes good
Thoughts: I want to chew some real solid food. Please.
We drank the entire Red juice, sat there and stared at each other and almost in sync said “let’s go get some food.”. Yep, we gave up and with only one juice left! They say this is the most common time for people to struggle, and even suggest a handful of a healthy snack like nuts but we knew that just wasn’t going to work. We headed out for dinner and came back feeling a little defeated but full. Finally full.
With some food in our bodies, and a seriously improved attitude, we decided to give the white juice a try.
White (#6)
Kyle
Taste: Hey, this one isn’t bad at all.
Thoughts: Think we should have stuck it out?
Sara
Taste: Yum!! This is like dessert.
Thought: We totally could have done it but dang, wasn’t that pasta good?
We didn’t make it.
So could we have made it? probably. But we were miserable and at the time, that just wasn’t how we wanted to be feeling. The next days, we could tell we did something to reboot our bodies. We were still a bit fatigued but other than that, felt refreshed and ready to start paying attention to what we put into our bodies. We were, I guess, cleansed.
Would I do it again? Probably not. Should you? Maybe! Throughout my day, I talked to coworkers that have loved juice cleanses and some that had hated them. Some of them finished 5 day cleanses and others, like us, didn’t make it to the end of the day on a single day cleanse. I say give it a try! It’s a little pricey, but most of the juices are good (especially towards the end of the day) so if you don’t finish you have them for the next day! You can definitely do it! It is a mind over matter type of thing. Our minds on this random Tuesday… not so strong. Hunger won.
Have you tried a cleanse? Love it? Hate it? Let me know in the comments!
