After one hell of a week, Kyle treated me to the most perfect celebration staycation at The Durham Hotel! 24 hours out of our house full of delicious cocktails, delivery pizza, rooftop yoga and my favorite person was just what I needed. We nailed it with our hotel choice! The Durham had everything we needed right inside so we didn’t even want to step outside the doors of this awesome place! The Durham, located in the middle of downtown Durham gives off 60’s vibes with the awesome decor and is known for their food and drinks! To sum of this staycation – HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
Our tip: Opt for the “weekender” package
We splurged on this little getaway but totally justified it with the weekender package we got! Our room came with complimentary valet, an iced bottle of champagne, snacks, a pastry breakfast and late checkout perfect for a lazy morning. Can you ask for a better way to kick off a celebration than popping a bottle of sparkling rosé?
We relaxed with HBO movies, gourmet potato chips by our sides and champagne in hand for most of the afternoon until we decided to head up to the rooftop. Sure, we could have explored downtown Durham and we totally will another time, but we were perfectly content right there in room 416. I think it was that fact, alone, that made our stay so great.
Our tip: Go for the house cocktails (My fave – The Old Cuban). They’re high dollar but WORTH IT.
The durham hotel rooftop bar is THE BEST. Insanely good sunset views and even more inanely delicious cocktails! We got fancied up for our date night and headed up to the roof around 6. It was busy but not miserably so. We found a spot at the bar where we camped out for our first round of drinks. The bartenders have that extra flair that makes it easy to sit at the bar and just watch them craft cocktails. We ended up making our list of how we’d work through the cocktail menu while we sat there
After the first round, we headed outside to watch the sunset and soak up the view. We were lucky and caught a gorgeous night, but I’d imagine these views are pretty great in an weather. We opted out of rooftop dinner and headed back to the room for dinner. I’d love to say we had some fancy pants room service, but nah. We ordered Papa Johns and chowed.
Fill out the Coffee card before you crash!
Yoga is on the house!
First of all, delivery coffee grounds are a thing at the Durham! Yep, fill out your little card and you’ll have fresh grounds & cream delivered to your door for the morning. We woke up and had a lazy morning with our brews before heading down to the lobby for breakfast.
Breakfast is pretty different from the traditional “continental breakfast” but in the best way possible. Local pastries are lined up on the counter and you get your choice of 2. Kyle I managed to try 4 of the 6 options and all were pretty scrummy (learned that work from “The Great British Baking Show”- my newest netflix binge). If you have to pick, go for the buckwheat sugar cake and the cheese toast! There’s juice, coffee and water down in the lobby and they make a pretty bomb latte if you need an extra boost.
After breakfast, Kyle headed back to the room to read while I made my way back up to the rooftop for some yoga! Class is on rain or shine and complimentary for hotel guests. The views and the fresh air make for an especially refreshing yoga class and the teacher, Jessica, is awesome!
After yoga, I stopped by the lobby for an iced latte then headed up to the room for a nap before we had to pack up. Late check-out is clutch.
“Have a safe ride back home to Apex”
To say we left refreshed would be an understatement. I’m so thankful Kyle thought of this fun way to treat ourselves (Thanks bub!) and we’re definitely going to go on a staycation again soon! Where should we try next?
